WEBSITE : The Soul of Europe
Dear Veronique Petit,
We know that you are aware that Ali Aaarrass has been on hunger strike for almost 21 days .and on a thirst strike for 5 days.
He is now very weak. He cannot move, and it is likely he will die shortly.
As you know he embarked on this strike because a medallion with ribbon in belgian colours was removed from his cell, and the cell was ramsacked. The medallion was awarded for his performance in a Marathon.
When he complained he was told he was a prisoner and has no rights. He has been denied access to showers, the yard, phone and personal correspondence.
This treatment is an infringement of basic human rights.
We would be grateful if you would convey our concern to your government’s failure to intervene with the Moroccan authorities on behalf of Ali Aarrass.
Therefore we urge the consulate to visit Ali Aarrass. We understand there is a reluctance to intervene because such a precedent might be set for all those with dual citizenship. But just for a moment put yourself in Ali’s shoes and that of his family. Sometimes for the sake of a life regulations have to be overturned.
We look forward to hearing from you today, and that Ali will be receiving a visit from the Consulate.
With best wishes,
The Revd Donald Reeves,MBE, and Peter Pelz – Directors of the Soul of Europe. (www.soulofeurope.org)
